At The IDEAL School, you get to use English all the time.
You will only be able to use your own language for 30-45 minutes a day.
The rest of the day, you will practice your English with the Davis family and with
the other students living at The IDEAL School.
In some schools you speak your first language too much and your English does not improve very fast.
It's human nature–most of us naturally do what is easiest and most comfortable. Unfortunately, that does not usually help your English improve. Of course, you want to stay in touch with your friends and family back home in your country. There's nothing wrong with that. The problem is that many of you spend too much time on the Internet, on the phone, or in person with people who speak your same language. The only thing that improves is your relationship with your friends.

Some of you are used to being
on the computer all the time. At The IDEAL School, you will have
some time every day to do
work on the computer, but not as much as you may be used to. We believe
that we all need balance in our lives and that too much of anything,
even a good thing, is bad for us. We don’t give you a lot of
homework—we want you to practice your English
in practical situations around the home and school. For example, as you are playing a game,
we will help you practice using correct question formation (not “What
I have to do?” but “What do I have to do?”).
You will also share your room and the rest of
the house/school with the Davis family and the other students. This will
require you to use English for real communication. You will not be able
to go to your room and isolate. Of course, everyone needs time alone.
You will get that, but you will also take responsibility for yourself
by learning to work through misunderstandings. You will be part of a
team. We need everyone to work together to make our living environment
peaceful and enjoyable.
