The school is located abut 30 minutes from the Portland airport, in the state of Washington. It is a lovely country (rural) home with a beautiful view of Mt. Hood and the surrounding hills and valleys. Two creeks flow through the property, and 20 acres of trees and beautiful nature surround the school. Students live and learn in this country setting away from the noise and distractions of the city.
Yet, it is only
30 minutes to the city of Portland, Oregon, with a population of about 2
million. Weekly excursions
take students to shopping, museums, etc. This is ideal because you can focus on
your studies in a beautiful environment and still do the shopping and cultural
events you may be used to. The IDEAL School is also only 3 hours from
Seattle, Washington, one of the options for our weekend excursions.
You can ride in comfort in our bus with
large windows and reclining seats on all of our excursions.
The IDEAL School
is a great place for families to live and study together in a comfortable,
family atmosphere. At most language schools, the whole family cannot live and
study in one place. At The IDEAL School, each family member gets the
instruction he/she needs, and the family still has time to work and play
together. Most language schools require students to be 18 if they are going to
live on campus, but at The IDEAL School, students of all ages are welcome.
The IDEAL School
provides individualized instruction that is focused on you, the student. Our
goal is to help you achieve your individual goals. Besides the great academics,
you also get the chance to be part of a larger family—including not only the Davis
family but also the other students who are living here at the time. You don’t
have to feel alone or isolated. At The IDEAL School, you are a welcome addition
to our school family.
The house is an elegant, custom 6,200 square foot (576
square meter) home, built in 1997. Students typically
share rooms in this home/school. We believe that we can learn a lot from
sharing our living space with others. Greg and Lisa share their home with
international students. We expect the students to share their space with each
other, as well. Each student will have his/her own bed (family members may
share beds, as desired). The bathrooms and showers are shared. There are spaces
throughout the house and school for students to find some privacy also.
Learn English while living in a
warm, friendly family setting with an American family (husband-Greg, wife-Lisa,
and their three children) and other international students with similar goals.
Both Greg and Lisa are certified professional language educators. Greg has a
Master’s degree in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages and has
taught English for international students in Russian and US community colleges
and universities since 1992. His specialties include: TOEFL, writing, grammar,
pronunciation, and university preparation—academic and cultural. Lisa is a
certified elementary and high school teacher with Spanish, English as a Second
Language, and History endorsements. She has taught since 1987.
